The Magic of Watching Kids Bake & Party, Brooklyn Style. No Magician Needed, at Buttermilk’s Kid’s Parties in Gowanus.

From little birthdays to tweens, it’s all about the kids — even the ones who think ‘I’m not good at this’ — and for parents, it’s about watching the party, not directing it.

It’s not flashy, hyperventilating or overworked. Just kids in aprons,
standing on little step stools, surrounded by the smell of cakes baking, bowls of rainbow sprinkles, tables filled with frostings and rarin-to-go.

Just last week, I watched a birthday boy and his friends comparing sprinkles like they were trading Pokémon cards for a best-level edge. Concentrating on getting everything they wanted just right was kind of magical to watch. They were calm, laughing in this low, steady way instead of screaming over music and lighting up when they stepped back and saw what they made.

Plus — and let’s be honest — as parents, you’ll shoot the kind of photos you actually want to keep. Natural light. Frosting smeared smiles. Sprinkles everywhere spread like confetti.

Planning a Brooklyn kids birthday party can feel like a balancing act. All the thinking that goes into them can be dizzying. So, as ‘bakeshop birthday parties’ became one of the most searched-for and loved kids party experiences in Brooklyn, we upped the game with ours.

Wrapped creativity, hands-on fun, and the favors into one great memory.

Anyway, I wanted to share all this in case you’re in party planning mode like half the borough always seems to be, and want to genuinely enjoy the flow of one, know that whenever you celebrate with us, we’re paying attention to the details you see and all those you don’t.

Like…

  • Kids arriving to decorated tables, aprons and decorating stations ready to go
  • On-hand staff set and ready to guide the decorating from start to finish
  • The classic birthday magic — candles, birthday cake, singing, and photos — all in place
  • The favors — the cupcakes or cookies the ‘pastry chefs’ of the day have made are party-ready and packed to-go
